Exploring Polyphasic Sleep: Has Anyone Tried It?

I’ve been revisiting the idea of polyphasic sleep lately, specifically the Uberman schedule, six 20-minute naps spaced evenly throughout the day. I stuck to it for about a year back in 2009, and while it was a challenge to adapt, the experience was unforgettable. Time felt fluid, almost like the usual day-night cycle no longer applied, and the dreams were something else entirely. Vivid and often lucid, like stepping into another world for hours at a time.

It’s not without its challenges. Missing a nap or getting sick can throw everything off, and it takes a lot of discipline and the right environment to make it work. Back then I had the flexibility to pull it off, but life’s a lot more complicated now. Still, I can’t help but wonder if it’s worth trying again, even for a short stretch.

Have you ever experimented with polyphasic sleep? What interests you about it—or what makes it seem completely unworkable? If you’ve tried it, how did it go? And if you haven’t, does the idea of reshaping your sleep schedule sound intriguing or just exhausting? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
